Becoming More Confident in the Classroom

The more time I spend working with students, the more confident I feel in my role. I am learning to trust myself, trust my decisions, and step into the classroom with more intention each day. Every experience is helping me grow into the kind of teacher I want to be.

I’ve really been enjoying learning more about social-emotional learning. It’s something I naturally connect with, so being able to study it more deeply has been exciting. I still can’t believe I’m starting my Master’s program focused on something I care so much about.

This TED Talk reflects my belief that every student deserves a teacher who believes in them. It connects directly to why I chose teaching and the kind of classroom environment I strive to create.

Small Wins Matter

I have learned that not every success in the classroom is huge. Sometimes it’s a student participating more, trying again after struggling, or showing a little more confidence than the day before. Those small wins matter.

This made me think about how important it is to keep students actively involved in their learning. When students are engaged, they’re more confident, more willing to participate, and more open to trying. It’s not just about keeping their attention, it’s about helping them feel connected to what they’re learning.

Being Flexable And Learning How To Pivot

Starting my first substitute teaching job was both exciting and a little overwhelming. Walking into a classroom that isn’t “yours” and still being expected to lead, manage, and support students really pushed me out of my comfort zone.

One of the biggest things I learned right away is how important classroom management and clear expectations are. Even small things like transitions, directions, and routines make a huge difference in how the day flows. I had to think on my feet, stay flexible, and adjust throughout the day depending on what students needed.

At the same time, I realized how important it is to build quick connections with students. Even in a short amount of time, taking a moment to listen, encourage, and support them can completely change the tone of the classroom.

This experience helped me grow in confidence and reminded me that teaching is not about having everything perfect. It’s about being present, adaptable, and willing to learn alongside your students.

I’m excited to continue gaining experience, improving my classroom management, and growing into the teacher I am working toward becoming.

This idea really connects to how I see teaching. I don’t just focus on what students are learning, but also how they’re feeling, how they show up each day, and what they need to be successful. It’s a reminder that supporting students means looking at the full picture, not just academics.

Video: I Wish My Teacher Knew

This video really moved me. It reminded me that there are no bad students, just moments where they need more support. I want to be the kind of teacher who looks beyond grades, listens, and creates a space where students feel safe and understood.
